BRAIDWOOD, Ill. – A reported water rescue turned out to be a false alarm on Saturday afternoon in Shadow Lakes. The Braidwood Fire Protection District received a call at approximately 2:25 p.m. about a capsized boat with people in the water in the 100-block of Fossil Lake Court. The Wilmington, Coal City, and Elwood fire departments were all dispatched to the scene to assist in the rescue.

However, a short time later, the departments were called off after the police reported that two heavily intoxicated individuals were trying to drag a boat out of the water at the boat launch. No rescue was needed.

The incident serves as a reminder to always ensure sobriety before attempting to operate any watercraft, as impaired judgment can lead to dangerous situations on the water.
