Residents of Frankfort are advised to be aware of controlled burns that will take place along the Old Plank Trail today, March 28, 2023, between noon and 4 pm. The Will County Forest Preserve District will be conducting these burns in the area, and residents may notice smoke or flames as a result.

The Frankfort Fire Protection District has warned residents to not be alarmed if they see flames or smoke coming from the area. The controlled burns are an important part of the forest preserve’s management plan to reduce the risk of wildfires and promote the growth of native plants and vegetation.

The Will County Forest Preserve District conducts these controlled burns annually, typically in the early spring or late fall. They utilize experienced professionals to carefully monitor and control the fires to ensure the safety of residents and the environment.

The Frankfort Fire Protection District encourages residents to avoid the area during the controlled burns for their own safety. If anyone experiences respiratory problems due to the smoke, they should seek medical attention immediately.

It is important for residents to be aware of the controlled burns and take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their families safe during this time.
