Lockport, IL – Elderly Woman Perishes in Lockport Condo Fire

Lockport, IL – An elderly woman tragically lost her life in a fire that swept through a Lockport condominium on Tuesday evening. 

According to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, the blaze was reported at 8:28 p.m. in the 1100 block of Division Street. Firefighters arrived swiftly, within five minutes, to battle the flames in the two-story, eight-unit building. The Lockport Police and multiple fire departments worked together to contain the fire to a single unit.

The victim was found unresponsive during a search of the smoke-filled condo and was quickly transported to Silver Cross Hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Fortunately, all other residents were evacuated safely, and no further injuries were reported. 

An investigation by local fire and police authorities is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
