JOLIET – A man has died this week after being attacked by a pit bull in Joliet.
According to police, it happened Thursday night near Arthur Avenue and Woodruff road after two people at a home became involved in an argument. The dog reportedly became agitated during the argument and mauled the victim repeatedly, causing the man to go into cardiac arrest.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene around 6:30 pm and found 46-year-old Erick Quinn of Joliet on the floor of the home, unresponsive. A Joliet police officer performed CPR on Quinn who was transported to Silver Cross Hospital and pronounced dead shortly at 7:10 pm.
Official reports show Quinn was only visiting the residence at the time.
Autopsy results later showed Mr. Quinn suffered multiple injuries due to a dog attack, which induced traumatic cardiac arrest.
The dog is now in the custody of the Joliet Township Animal Control as the incident remains under investigation.
