Manteno Planning Commission Unanimously Approves Rezoning for Lithium Battery Plant at Former K-Mart Site

Manteno, Illinois – Following a prolonged meeting last week that lasted five hours, the Manteno Planning Commission has unanimously approved the rezoning of the old K-Mart building near I-57. 

This decision, made during a continuance meeting, allows the site to be transformed into a lithium battery manufacturing plant. The commission voted 7-0 in favor of recommending the property’s rezoning from light to heavy industrial, a key step for Gotion Battery’s redevelopment plans. 

The final decision now rests with the Manteno Village Board, which will vote on the matter at its upcoming Monday meeting.
