Monroe, MI – A 47-year-old Newport man was arrested following a carjacking and subsequent vehicle pursuit in Monroe on Saturday evening.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at 7:34 p.m. when Monroe Police responded to a carjacking in the 700 block of N. Macomb St. The suspect attacked the vehicle owner and stole an olive green Subaru Outback, fleeing southbound.
Minutes later, Deputy James Yuchuck located the vehicle in Frenchtown Township. Despite an attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled, leading deputies on a northbound pursuit. Stop sticks were deployed, and the vehicle was halted in Frenchtown Villa Mobile Home Park, where the suspect was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
The suspect is being held on multiple charges, including Fleeing & Eluding and Assault & Battery on Police. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7534.
