Hoffman Estates, IL – In the aftermath of Tuesday’s thunderstorms, the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago is set to investigate damage from what are believed to be nine tornado touchdowns, including one near Gary, Indiana. The storms, which produced large hail and potentially several tornadoes, left a trail of destruction across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Preliminary reports indicate strong to severe thunderstorms impacted areas north of I-80 during the evening, with the Chicago area west along I-88/I-80 corridors experiencing numerous incidents of large hail. The NWS will share additional information, including results from today’s storm damage surveys, on their website and social media platforms.

Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to follow updates and remain cautious as the extent of the damage is assessed. The storm, marking one of the season’s most significant weather events thus far, has highlighted the need for continued vigilance during severe weather threats.
