Mystery Vehicle Behind Fatal Illinois Ammonia Leak Crash: Can You Help Identify?

TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. — A devastating crash on Friday, September 29, 2023, outside of Teutopolis has prompted the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation to seek public help. 

The collision resulted in five deaths and several injuries, after a semi-truck tanker loaded with anhydrous ammonia leaked following the crash. 

At around 8:35 p.m., a dark-colored, unidentified vehicle was seen traveling westbound near the U.S. Highway 40 and Spring Creek Road intersection in Montrose. ISP is collecting surveillance footage from Casey, Montrose, and Teutopolis.
