Naperville, IL – Police Successfully Resolve Standoff, Arrest Hanover Park Man on Multiple Felonies

Naperville, IL – In the early hours of Saturday, January 6, Naperville police officers responded to a situation involving a stolen vehicle and an armed suspect. 

According to the Naperville Police Department, the incident unfolded around 4:26 a.m. at the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive. Officers discovered a stolen vehicle in a parking lot, leading to a foot pursuit as the suspect fled into a nearby apartment. The occupant of the apartment, who did not welcome the suspect, safely exited, reporting that the intruder was armed.

The Naperville Police Department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene. After hours of negotiation, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jonathan P. Awad from Hanover Park, surrendered peacefully. 

Awad faces charges including Possession of a Motor Vehicle, Trespass to Residence, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, and Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer.
