Raleigh, NC – North Carolina residents are under a flood watch through tonight as up to 3 inches of rain is expected across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for scattered flash flooding, particularly in urban areas and places with poor drainage. Strong to severe thunderstorms are also forecasted, contributing to the heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS Raleigh, the heaviest rainfall is anticipated between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. today. “Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop, leading to heavy downpours and an increased threat of flash flooding,” said the NWS. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and avoid driving through flooded roads.

The excessive rainfall outlook indicates that localized areas could see more than 3 inches of rain. The NWS emphasizes the importance of preparedness, advising residents to stay indoors and off the roads during severe weather conditions.

Looking ahead, the forecast shows continued unsettled weather. On Friday, there is a 65% chance of rain with temperatures reaching 83°F. The weekend will bring some relief, with partly cloudy skies and lower chances of rain, but temperatures will climb back into the mid-80s by Sunday.

Early next week, scattered showers return on Monday with a 35% chance of rain and a high of 85°F. Tuesday is expected to be mostly dry, while Wednesday sees another increase in rain chances at 45%. Temperatures throughout the week will remain in the high 60s to low 70s during the nights and mid-80s during the days.
