Palos Park, IL – Police are alerting the community to a scam targeting elderly individuals, referred to as the “Grandparents Scam.”

According to the department’s social media update, suspects allegedly prey on older residents, deceiving them into believing a family member is in legal trouble and requesting money wired for bail—a method which complicates fund recovery.

Officers are urging the public to verify such claims directly with family members and to be aware that bail cannot be processed through wire transfers. Citizens are advised to hang up on any call that instructs them to send money in this manner.
