Mapleton, IL – A fire broke out at the Caterpillar Mapleton Foundry on Thursday evening, resulting in one fatality.
According to Sheriff Chris Watkins, Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene at 8826 Route 24 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they observed a fire and confirmed one individual was deceased. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Timber-Hollis Fire Department, and AMT responded to the incident.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Peoria County Coroner after family notifications. The fire has been extinguished, but the investigation is ongoing.
