ROCKDALE, IL – Several area fire departments responded to a distress call on Monday night after a man became trapped on an island area in the Des Plaines River near Rockdale.

According to authorities, the man was fishing when the Brandon Road Lock and Dam opened, releasing a ton of water and leaving him unable to return to shore. He allegedly tried to make a fire in the small area of land where he was fishing to draw attention for rescue.

Fortunately, the man’s life was not in danger, and he was brought back to shore with the help of a small Jon boat.

The man was evaluated by paramedics on land.

Firefighters from Channahon, Minooka, Troy, and East Joliet were also called to assist in the rescue operation.
