MONEE, Ill. — A 74-year-old resident of Monee, Illinois was found dead early Friday morning in a parked vehicle at the village’s police department, the police said.
A patrol officer on duty at 4 a.m. noticed a vehicle with heavy condensation on the windows parked in the police department’s main parking lot. Upon investigation, the officer found a lone occupant slumped over the wheel with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Monee paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and determined the subject was deceased. Investigators say the man appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Will County Coroner’s office is investigating the incident. The vehicle has been removed from the parking lot and the police department is operating normally.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Monee is a village located approximately 35 miles south of Chicago.
