Lake Barrington, IL – A tragic traffic collision on Route 59 claimed the life of a woman from Schaumburg and caused minor injuries to other drivers yesterday afternoon. Responding to the crash site north of Miller Road at about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County (MCAT) found three vehicles with significant damage.

The investigation revealed that a Hyundai sedan, driven by the 53-year-old woman from Schaumburg, veered into the southbound lanes for an unknown reason, striking the rear of a semi-trailer towed by a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck. The semi-truck was driven by a 62-year-old man from Hawthorn Woods. Following this, the Hyundai collided with a southbound Lincoln SUV, whose 46-year-old driver from Cary sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office alongside MCAT continues to investigate the crash.
