Lake County, IN – Two Indiana residents are in custody after an early morning collision on I-80/94 in Indiana took a dramatic turn when a semi-truck overturned, crashing into construction equipment.
According to reports it happened around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday when a vehicle crashed into a semi, causing the semi to slam into the median wall before overturning onto its side. The impact led to the semi hitting some nearby construction machinery operated by two workers. No injuries were reported among the workers or drivers.
Eyewitnesses to the scene reported a man fleeing the crash site in a vehicle, later identified as a Ford Taurus. Upon arrival, authorities found the abandoned car. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a male and a female who returned to the scene later. It was determined that the male had been driving the Ford at the time of the collision.
Charges have been filed against both suspects. Charles Luis Garcia Berrios, 30, from Michigan City, IN, faces charges including Operating While Intoxicated, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and more. Tamia A. Baylor, 35, from Merrillville, IN, is charged with False Informing.
