Springfield, IL – The Illinois State Museum is calling on the public to share personal experiences of Route 66, as the iconic highway approaches its 100th anniversary in 2026.
According to the museum, historians will record oral histories from individuals who have traveled on Route 66, operated businesses along the route, or participated in its construction and maintenance. “These interviews will help illustrate the significance of this important transportation achievement,” said Erika Holst, the museum’s curator of history. Interested individuals can contact Route 66 project coordinator Judy Wagenblast at jwagenblastp@gmail.com.
The project, funded in part by the National Park Service, aims to preserve these memories for future generations.
