Suspect in Aurora Woman’s Murder Arrested in Florida, Held in Kane County Jail

Aurora, IL – Authorities have confirmed the arrest of Travares Mitchell, 49, of Aurora, in connection to the January 13th murder of 46-year-old Serhonda Burnett. 

In January, reports of a vehicle crash and gunfire near Prairie Street and Woodlawn Avenue, police discovered Burnett with fatal gunshot wounds. Mitchell, identified as Burnett’s domestic partner, has been charged with first-degree murder among other felonies. 

Arrested on March 6 in Orlando, Florida, Mitchell now awaits trial in Kane County Jail. Despite the charges, Mitchell remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
