Laurel, DE – A fatal bicycle crash in Sussex County is under investigation after a man was struck and killed Sunday night in the Laurel area.
According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 9:10 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, on Shiloh Church Road near Turkey Knob Road. Investigators say a man riding a bicycle westbound was struck by a Ford Explorer traveling in the same direction.
Authorities say the front right side of the SUV allegedly hit the bicyclist, causing the rider to be ejected. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 75-year-old man from Delmar, Delaware, was not injured in the crash.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the incident. Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward.
