Toxic Fumes in Shorewood after Massive Fire at landscaping business

SHOREWOOD – Residents have been asked to shelter in place this morning after a fire at a business caused toxic fumes in the area.

What’s being dubbed as an extra-alarm fire has caused massive damage to the business, Tri-County Stockdale at 25520 West Black Road.  

The fire, which started around 4am this morning, houses fertilizer. Over 12 fire departments had responded to the scene.

Police have asked residents to shelter in place while Black Road is closed from River Road to Country Line Road.

The shelter in place order extends for a two and a half mile radius around the site.  The Illinois EPA is on the scene further evaluating the situation.
