Salem, IN – A 14-year-old male is dead following a shooting in Salem Sunday night, prompting an ongoing investigation by Indiana State Police and local authorities.

According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. Sunday at a residence on East Oak Drive in Salem, located in Washington County, about 40 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky. Salem Police Department officers initially responded to the scene and discovered the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities said detectives and crime scene investigators from the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post were called in to assist with the case. During the preliminary investigation, a second 14-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the shooting.

Police allege the teen has been charged with reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony under Indiana law. He was transported to the Allen County Juvenile Center in Fort Wayne following his arrest.

The identity of the victim has not been publicly released. Officials confirmed the family has been notified. An autopsy was conducted Monday morning in Salem as part of the ongoing investigation.
