Charleston, WV – Another round of freezing temperatures is set to impact West Virginia overnight, bringing widespread frost and potential hazards for the Tuesday morning commute and sensitive vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 11 PM Monday through 9 AM Tuesday across much of the state. Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 26°F in central and northern areas, with frost advisory conditions in southern areas where lows hover near 33°F.
The coldest air will settle in after midnight, with subfreezing temperatures expanding across major corridors including I-64, I-77, and I-79. Cities such as Charleston, Parkersburg, Clarksburg, and Morgantown are likely to experience prolonged freezing conditions before sunrise.
Frost and thin ice may develop on bridges and untreated roads early Tuesday, especially in valleys and rural areas. Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and use caution during the morning commute.
Conditions will improve after 9 AM Tuesday as temperatures rise above freezing, but additional cold alerts remain possible if clear skies persist overnight.
