Manhattan, IL – A concerning trend has emerged in Will County as scammers, falsely claiming affiliation with Amazon, are targeting unsuspecting residents with fraudulent product tester offers.

The Village of Manhattan Police Department issued a warning about deceptive postcards that invite individuals to join a non-existent Amazon test club, offering free products and financial compensation for reviews. Such too-good-to-be-true invitations are a red flag, authorities caution.

According to the Manhattan Police Department, these scammers entice victims with the promise of up to $40 in commission and free products in exchange for their participation in the so-called test club. Residents are urged to scrutinize any unsolicited offers they receive in the mail, especially those requesting personal information.

The police emphasize that legitimate companies do not typically operate in this manner and that individuals should be wary of scanning QR codes or visiting websites linked from unsolicited mail. The community is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement as they work to safeguard residents from these and other fraudulent schemes.
