Joliet, IL – A car crash in Will County early Sunday morning claimed two lives and saw two people attempting to flee the scene of the wreck.
According to the Joliet Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:06 a.m. near Black Road and 129th Infantry Drive. A Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 19-year-old male from Crest Hill, struck a Chevrolet Trailblazer at the intersection. The collision caused the Trailblazer to leave the roadway, hitting a fire hydrant and overturning.
A 65-year-old male driver and a 59-year-old female passenger, both from Joliet, were pronounced dead at the scene. An unidentified 19-year-old driver of the Tahoe and an unidentified male passenger attempted to flee on foot. The driver was apprehended, but the passenger evaded capture. The identification of those involved has yet to be released.
The Will County Coroner’s Office is in charge of identifying the victims and determining the cause of death. The Joliet Police Traffic Unit is investigating and appeals to the public for any information or video of the crash. Contact them at (815)724-3010.
