Kankakee County, IL – Carter Watkins Celebrated as Manteno’s First State Champion in a Decade

Manteno, IL – Carter Watkins has been lauded as a Manteno High School legend, clinching the 175 lb weight class state title at the IHSA State Wrestling Tournament. 

After a gripping 13-10 semifinal win on Friday, Watkins sealed his championship with a compelling 7-2 decision on Saturday night at the State Farm Center. This significant victory marks him as the second wrestling state champion in MHS history and the first Manteno athlete to win a state championship in any sport for ten years.

According to Manteno High School Athletics, Watkins’ homecoming is honored with a time-honored police and fire escort, which begins at 11:45am Sunday morning, welcoming him back as a local hero. The community’s pride was palpable as residents lined the streets to celebrate their champion.
