KANKAKEE – Kankakee County Health Department announced Monday afternoon there are now 48 residents in Kankakee hospitalized for COVID-19.
The number sets a new record for active hospitalizations in Kankakee. It came as local officials announced 502 new cases of the virus since Saturday.
Fall has been unkind to the Kankakee community as mitigation have shadowed the community since October 23rd. New mitigation measures were announced by the State of Illinois Sunday night. Region 7 will move into TIER 2 mitigations beginning November 10th.
Since November 1st, KCHD has reported 1,396 new cases of COVID-19 locally, which is 27% of all cases since the pandemic began.
Kankakee passed a notable benchmark in the pandemic Monday afternoon, surpassing 5,000 cases. There have now been 5,164 cases to date in Kankakee. Kankakee was placed under multiple warnings by Illinois Friday. Monday, the weekly positivity rate in Kankakee was 15.9%
