Wilmington, IL – A school bus carrying five special needs students became submerged in floodwaters off Route 102 on Tuesday morning, prompting a swift rescue by the Wilmington Fire Protection District.

According to Deputy Chief Todd Friddle, the distress call was received at approximately 7:49 A.M. The Fire District’s Swiftwater Rescue personnel were immediately deployed, managing the water’s current to safely evacuate all occupants

Highlighting the incident, officials reiterated warnings against underestimating floodwaters and urged the public to exercise caution during such events. The timely response ensured no injuries, and all individuals were transported to their respective destinations without the need for hospitalization.
