Wisconsin Officer Shot During Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Milwaukee

Milwaukee, WI – During the Cinco de Mayo festivities on Sunday, May 5, 2024, a Milwaukee Police Department officer was shot around 10:52 p.m. on S. Cesar Chavez Dr. 

The 29-year-old officer, with over a year of service, was part of a foot patrol in the area when shots were fired by a suspect, resulting in non-fatal injuries.

The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) reports that no other injuries occurred during the incident, and the officer received immediate medical attention from the Milwaukee Fire Department before being transported to a hospital. Three people have since been detained with two firearms have been recovered. 

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.  Anyone with information surrounding the shooting is asked to contact MPD investigators.
