Multiple COVID-19 cases linked to sports leagues and events, 87 in Kankakee this week

Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) officials reported Friday the Communicable Disease Team has traced multiple COVID-19 cases back to sports leagues and events.

The announcement comes following the Illinois High School Associations suspension of major fall sports as KCHD itself reported 87 cases of COVID-19 in Kankakee County this past week. The agency did not mention any specific sports leagues or events in the release.

On Friday, the agency reported 13 new cases. There are now 1,741 confirmed cases to date in Kankakee County. No new deaths were reported Friday and remain at 65 to date.

Entering the weekend, 546 cases were active in Kankakee with officials reporting 7 residents hospitalized due to the pandemic in our area.
