LAVERGNE, TN – Tensions rose in Tennessee Saturday afternoon after a police shooting caused a statewide #TNBlueAlert.
The focus of the manhunt is John Drake, Jr., the 38-year-old son of Metro-Nashville police chief, John Drake. The younger Drake is wanted in connection to the recent shooting of two LaVergne police officers.
Chief Drake, in a poignant statement, revealed his heartbreak: “I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn that my estranged son, with whom I have had very minimal contact over many years, is the suspect in this afternoon’s shooting of the two La Vergne police officers.” He further appealed for the public’s help in capturing his son and ensuring justice, adding the son is a convicted felon.
The suspect was last seen in LaVergne around 2:30p, wearing a black t-shirt featuring a red-accented hockey mask and gray sweatpants. A shelter in place ordered was issued for nearby residents.
