Hot Springs, AR – The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) has called upon the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division (ASP CID) to look into a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place on Monday, March 11, 2024, in Hot Springs. The confrontation led to the death of 45-year-old Jody Lyn Lewis of Sherwood, and left an HSPD officer injured.

According to reports, the incident unfolded around 9:35 p.m. when HSPD officers attempted a traffic stop at the Albert Pike Car Wash located in the 2000 block of Albert Pike Road. Witness accounts suggest an exchange of gunfire ensued after Lewis emerged from his vehicle wielding a firearm.

The injured officer was swiftly transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, Lewis was pronounced dead and his body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for a detailed examination to determine the exact cause and manner of his death.

The investigation findings will be compiled into a case file for the prosecuting attorney’s review to decide if the deadly force used aligns with the state laws of Arkansas
