Champaign Police Investigating Bank Robbery on Springfield Avenue Monday

CHAMPAIGN, IL – Champaign Police were called to the 1600 block of W. Springfield Avenue Monday for reports of a bank robbery. 

According to authorities, it happened around 1:45 p.m. when a male suspect entered the bank wielding a handgun and demanded money. The suspect swiftly fled the scene with an undisclosed sum of cash. 

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and it appears that the firearm was not discharged during the incident.

The suspect is described as a male with a medium build. Eyewitnesses observed him wearing light gray sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt, gloves, black shoes, and a black face mask. 

Officers are actively combing the surrounding area for potential witnesses and surveillance footage that may aid in their investigation. Champaign Police urge residents and businesses in the vicinity with exterior surveillance camera systems to promptly notify the police department. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available.
