BRADLEY – Bradley School District 61 will go remote after taking a ‘hard look’ at in-person learning in the District beginning November 6th through the end of the month.
The District has reported 11 positive cases among staff and students since returning to in-person learning.
“We have had a spike in COVID-related cases mostly due to staff and students requiring to quarantine as a result of close contact,” Goselin said Thursday in a statement. “We believe that effective operations will be compromised due to the number of cases.”
Since Monday, the Kankakee County Public Health Department has reported over 400 new cases locally. As of Wednesday, 39 area residents were hospitalized for the virus, a record for hospitalization at one time in Kankakee.
The announcement came in a letter to area parents from Superintendent Scott Goselin Thursday, hours after a Bourbonnais School announced similar measures.
“We have determined out of caution and maintaining our commitment to the health and well-being of our students, to suspend in-person instruction and begin full remote learning in the Bradley School District tomorrow, November 6 through our Thanksgiving break. Our schedule return date for continuance of in-person instruction would be on Monday, November 30th.” Goselin said.
During Wednesday’s COVID-19 briefing, Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said in the latest statewide report children were the third-largest group in terms of the number of cases.
