A Manteno Veterans Home resident who was previously in hospice for other conditions has died after contracting COVID-19.  Governor J.B. Pritzker made the announcement from his home while under quarantine on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the first death statewide of any Veterans Home resident dying who’s contracted the virus during the pandemic.

Earlier this week, it was announced 30 residents at Manteno Veterans Home had tested positive out of 220 residents at the facility.  Of employees, 19 of 307 have tested positive to date between April and May.

Three of the State’s four Veterans’ Homes have now tested positive for COVID-19, with five residents testing positive at Anna and a single resident at LaSalle testing positive for the Virus.

Quincy is the lone state run Veterans’ Home not testing positive for any cases of novel coronavirus.
