BOURBONNAIS, IL — Kankakee County’s COVID-19 cases have increased by 112 over the past week, according to data provided by the Kankakee County Health Department.   Active cases were up from 232 on June 24th to 321 on July 1st, an overall increase of 28%.

Total cases overall in the county were at 1,367 on July 1st, compared to 1,255 on June 24th.

Kankakee was already on the warning list according to a new metric map released by IPDH last week.  The map is designed to act as an early indicator showcasing the highest per capita cases on a 7-day average. A warning is only generated when the new case rate is greater than 50 cases per 100,000 people.

No other surrounding counties received such a warning, including Cook County.  The only other counties to receive such warnings included other border counties, Pulaski, Rock Island, and St. Clair.  Cass County also received a warning.

The average case in Kankakee was a woman in her 20s over the period.  Over 75 women tested positive during the 7-day stretch, with 27 records of cases in their 20s.

On Wednesday, six residents were hospitalized due to COVID-19 at area hospitals in Kankakee County. Here’s how cases break down via zip codes on Thursday since the pandemic began.
