US hits new record, 40,000 cases in 24 hours

Vice President Mike Pence announced this morning 40,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

It’s a new record for single day cases in the U.S. Cases have not been this high since late April.

Deaths and hospitalizations in parts of the country, especially in the South and West, have been on the rise. They include Arizona, Texas, Florida and Arkansas are among the states that have been hit hard.

Florida Department of Health reported 8,942 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, including 39 deaths and 212 additional hospitalizations. The state is reporting a 13.5% positivity rate for new tests conducted.
