AURORA, Ill. – The Salvation Army Aurora Corps, with the help of fifteen Aurora Lions Club members, initiated their 2023 Red Kettle campaign on November 17.

Volunteers gathered at Jewel-Osco, located at 1952 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, to collect donations in hour-long shifts. Major Joaquin Rangel of the Salvation Army Aurora Corps announced a fundraising goal of $200,000, mirroring last year’s target. Despite a decline in donations last year due to a shortage of volunteers and the decreasing trend of shoppers carrying cash, this year’s campaign introduces a digital twist.

Contributors can now use a QR code for on-site donations or opt for virtual donations through various platforms, including Google and Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, or credit card. The campaign is set to conclude on December 23, a day earlier than usual, owing to Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday, when the campaign traditionally pauses.
