Urbana, IL – Kevin Finley of Urbana has been sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison following his conviction for a 2021 home invasion and sexual assault of a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign student. The incident, characterized by its violent and invasive nature, took place in the early hours of July 8th, 2021, in the victim’s residence.

According to the Champaign County Court records, Finley was found guilty in May 2023 after a trial prosecuted by then Assistant State’s Attorney Kristen Alferink. The prosecution’s case was bolstered by DNA evidence, digital data, and the victim’s testimony. On January 4, 2024, Judge Randall Rosenbaum handed down a sentence of 35 years for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and an additional 10 years for Criminal Sexual Abuse.

This case was marked by previous allegations against Finley, including uncharged sexual abuse in Urbana and a 2015 human trafficking charge in Florida. The Urbana Police Department, commended for their investigative work, has reiterated their commitment to community safety and justice for victims of sexual assault.
