State Police Probing Illinois Shooting after Suspect Allegedly Violating Protection Killed

CENTRALIA – The Illinois State Police have taken the helm of an investigation following a tragic incident on Tuesday morning. 

According to police reports, officers responded an individual allegedly breaching a protection order.  When Centralia officers arrived, they were confronted by the suspect reportedly armed with a knife. 

Police report non-lethal attempts to contain the situation proved ineffective, leading to an officer fatally shooting the suspect. The same officer was also injured during the confrontation but has been released after treatment. Further updates on the investigation will be provided as they emerge.
