JOLIET, IL – A U.S. Postal worker was ambushed and robbed at gunpoint on Ontario Street in Joliet on Halloween.
According to Will County Sheriff’s Department reports while delivering mail a 24-year-old carrier’s USPS truck became lodged in a ditch just before 1 p.m. on Halloween. A short time later an older SUV stopped behind him, an assumed good samaritan turned into a robbery as a masked man armed with a semi-automatic pistol demanded the carrier’s belongings.
After surrendering his cell phone and two trays of mail, the postal worker fled on foot, seeking refuge in a nearby wooded area. Later, the carrier was able to flagged down a helpful citizen on Champlain Street.
An investigation was into the incident is underway.
