MARENGO, IL — A community was thrust into chaos early Wednesday when a 46-year-old allegedly threatened neighbors with a knife from his apartment doorway on Briden Drive. Responding to the early morning disturbance, Marengo Police were met with threats from the subject, identified as Jason Petty, who later escalated the situation by displaying a firearm.
According to Marengo Police Department reports, the severity of the threat prompted evacuations of surrounding apartments and elicited a swift response from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, Harvard Police, and the McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional S.W.A.T. team.
After tense hours, Petty was apprehended without incident around 3:30 a.m. and is facing multiple charges including Threatening a Public Official and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. The Marengo Police Department is still investigating and has thanked all assisting agencies for their rapid and effective response.
