Illinois Courthouse Lockdown: Emotionally Distressed Armed Man Arrested

Henry County, IL – A tense standoff unfolded in the Henry County Courthouse, Illinois, as an armed man displaying emotional distress entered the building. 

According to Henry County Sheriff’s Department reports it happened early Wednesday around 8:18 a.m. The man, identified as 61-year-old James M. Demink of Colona, IL, reportedly showcased a pistol during the security check, leading to immediate action from the courthouse officials.

The courthouse was swiftly placed on lockdown while deputies engaged in de-escalation tactics. After a brief period, Demink complied with the deputies, culminating in his arrest without further incident. 

Demink has since been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 4 felony, and is being held at the Henry County Jail pending a court appearance.
