Kankakee, IL – Sheriff Mike Downey and the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office issue a renewed alert to locals about a prevalent phone scam.

Scammers, impersonating police officers, falsely inform residents of non-existent subpoenas and arrest warrants, demanding a $4,000 payment to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office clarifies that such payments are never requested over the phone. They urge residents to verify suspicious calls through their official number, (815) 802-7100, or KanComm at 815-933-3324, and to report any incidents of this scam to the authorities.
