Kankakee, IL – River Valley Metro Mass Transit has surpassed a significant milestone, recording over 14 million rides since starting operations in 1999.
This achievement underscores the vital role of public transport in meeting the community’s diverse transportation needs. According to Managing Director Siron Sims, the transit service is essential for residents traveling to work, school, medical appointments, shopping, and social gatherings.
In addition, April set new records for the transit service, with its routes to Midway Airport alone providing over 2,800 rides, while the Metro Plus paratransit service offered more than 1,900 rides. Serving Kankakee County’s urbanized area, River Valley Metro operates 13 routes with over 300 bus stops, including commuter and ADA-eligible services, demonstrating a growing reliance on public transportation in the region.
