Newton County, IN – A sophisticated scam allegedly originating from Canada has targeted residents of Newton County, Indiana.

Newton County Sheriff’s Department reports that locals have received deceptive letters from an alleged Canadian law firm. These letters falsely claim the recipients are sole heirs to a life insurance policy worth over 11 million dollars.

The scam involves a request to partner with the recipient to claim the supposed inheritance. One vigilant resident avoided potential fraud by consulting family before responding.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution, emphasizing the adage, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
