Indiana Man Charged with Murder After Body Found Alongside Assault Rifle, Taser in Home

BLOOMINGTON, IN – A Bloomington man finds himself in the midst of a murder investigation as authorities respond to a distressing scene Saturday night. 

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Department reports it began around 1:30 a.m. early Saturday when deputies responded to a call of a disturbance in the 5900 block of E SR 45. The home had reportedly been a source of ongoing neighborhood disputes, and when deputies arrived, they were met with a grim discovery. Inside the house, a lifeless body lay on the floor, bearing an apparent gunshot wound to the head, included an AR-15-style rifle and a civilian-style stun gun/taser in close proximity.

Bryce Leighton, 34 of Bloomington, was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for a thorough investigation. Following an exhaustive examination of the evidence, authorities booked Leighton on alleged Murder charges.  The victim has yet to be identified with Monroe County Coroner’s Office is working closely with the affected family to ascertain the victim’s identity.
