WESTFIELD, IN — The Westfield Police Department issued a critical cyber safety alert, emphasizing the need for parents to monitor their children’s online activities closely. This advisory comes in the wake of an assault incident involving a young resident.

According to police reports the victim, an 12-year-old female, met the suspect through Snapchat, leading to an assault complaint filed in December 2022. After an investigation, Westfield detectives arrested 20-year-old Benjamin Owen Rollo from Westfield, Indiana. Rollo was arrested Friday without incident and is currently held at the Hamilton County Jail on multiple alleged charges including three counts of child molesting, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and two counts of possession of child pornography.

The police department’s alert underscores the importance of parental vigilance in the digital age. Key recommendations include teaching children not to share personal information online, to be cautious of strangers, and to maintain open communication with parents about their online interactions.
