Indianapolis, IN – Indianapolis fire and police departments suspended a search for two kayakers who went missing Saturday evening on the White River near Belmont Beach.

Authorities were alerted around 8:35 PM when a 911 caller reported seeing the kayakers capsize and not resurface. Upon arrival, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) firefighters found the abandoned kayaks on the riverbank but saw no trace of the individuals.

According to IFD, three boats were immediately deployed to conduct bank and wide-area searches. Additionally, four drones operated by IFD and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) surveyed the area from above. Despite utilizing all available resources, the search was called off at 10:46 PM. Plans are in place to resume the operation Wednesday morning in a coordinated effort to locate the missing individuals.

Multiple agencies, including IUPUI Police, the Fishers Fire Department Dive Team, Wayne Township Top Water Team, Indianapolis EMS, Pike Township Medic, and the Department of Natural Resources, joined the extensive search effort.
