MOMENCE – Following an autopsy, we now know what caused a crash December 10th that lead to the death of a Momence Police Department Officer.

The Kankakee County Coroner’s reported last week Momence Police Officer Troy Jacobson died after a blood clot traveled from his leg to his lungs. Officers reported at the time they believed Jacobson had a medical emergency.

Jacobson was headed back to the station on the morning of December 10th when his car left the roadway and crashed near River and Dixie Highway. Shortly before the crash, Jacobson had called his wife to say he wasn’t feeling well.

Jacobson is survived by his wife and three young children.

A GoFundMe to aid in supporting the family during the difficult time has raised over $20,000 dollars as of Sunday morning.
