Bourbonnais, IL – In a unanimous decision during their recent meeting, the Bourbonnais Village Board has passed a resolution to petition the Illinois State Legislature to keep the state’s one-percent grocery tax in place.

This move comes in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s proposal to eliminate the tax, as outlined in his budget address. Mayor Paul Schore emphasized the critical nature of the funds generated by this tax, which are funneled directly to local municipalities, including Bourbonnais.

The potential removal of this tax poses a significant threat to the village’s finances, with an estimated loss of nearly $750,000 annually. This resolution underscores the village’s commitment to preserving essential local government revenues in the face of proposed state tax reforms.
